Ninja Gaiden

Sega's 8-bit hardware received a unique game in the Ninja Gaiden series. It has similar gameplay to the NES trilogy, but is an all-new game, with a new story, different levels, and new gameplay mechanics, including a new wall-to-wall jump mechanic, which carried over to the later 3D games.

Overview

One of the game's innovations was that, instead of clinging onto walls and climbing up like in the original NES trilogy, Ryu Hayabusa instead jumps off walls and climbs up by jumping off from one wall to another, much like the later 3D Ninja Gaiden games. Super Mario 64 also used a similar wall jump mechanic years later.
