Romancing SaGa 3

A Super Famicom RPG that is part of the popular (in Japan) SaGa series. It follows the non-linear structure of previous games in the series as well as after.

Overview

Romancing SaGa 3 is the third and final game of the Super Famicom SaGa entries, which continued the RPG series from the originals on the Game Boy, released internationally as Final Fantasy Legend 1-3. Like previous games in the series, the protagonist isn't fixed and can be chosen by the player before they begin. Each of the seven selectable protagonists has their distinct own storyline to follow, which occasionally overlap.

It also features elements from previous games directed by Akitoshi Kawazu, the mastermind behind the SaGa series, such as bringing back Final Fantasy II's character progression system which has certain stats improve depending on that character's actions in battle, such as HP increasing whenever they take damage. Characters also have "LP", which depletes whenever they lose all HP or continue to take hits while unconscious (at 0 HP). If their LP runs out, the character is temporarily removed from the party and must be re-recruited. If the protagonist loses all their LP, the game is over and must be reloaded from an earlier save.

Romancing SaGa 3 was released on the Super Famicom exclusively in Japan and has yet to become available internationally. It was later added to the Wii's Virtual Console library (again, in Japan only) in 2010.
