The 23rd installment in the EA Sports NHL franchise with the promise of a commentary changeover for the first time in eight years, along with revamped physics for both the players and the puck.

This game promises improvements to True Performance Skating, one touch deking, player and puck physics, and team AI. Jerseys will be individually modeled with live physics. NBC Sports' TV presentation for the NHL will be adapted into the game's UI and transitions, with real video introductions.

The new commentary team is Mike "Doc" Emrick and Eddie Olczyk on play by play and color respective, with Ray Ferraro doing on-ice reporting. They replace series mainstays Gary Thorne and Bill Clement.

EA Sports Hockey League will not be returning for current generation consoles, but a 6v6 multiplayer mode is planned for a post-release patch.
