Jack Nicklaus' Power Challenge Golf

A Genesis-exclusive entry in Accolade's Jack Nicklaus series of golf sims. Power Challenge strips out the course creator mode from the PC games in the series but offers an additional playable course as compensation.

Overview

Jack Nicklaus' Power Challenge Golf is a 1993 entry in Accolade's Jack Nicklaus series of golf sims that was released exclusively for the North American Sega Genesis and European/Australian Sega Mega Drive, and features the titular American golfer also known as the Golden Bear. The game is based on the 1992 PC game Jack Nicklaus Golf & Course Design: Signature Edition, but strips out the course creation toolset for the sake of an additional course: Baltusrol Golf Club in New Jersey, which is where the US Open was staged that year. It joins the English Turn and Sherwood County Club courses already in the game.

As with other games in the franchise, Power Challenge Golf has a heavy sim aspect as the player approaches each hole from a behind-the-golfer perspective. Jack Nicklaus himself shows up to give the player hints on how to tackle each hole before it starts. It features both stroke play and skins.
