Arslan Senki

A strategy RPG based off the popular novel/manga/anime that's similar in vein to Fire Emblem. It released only in Japan on the Sega Mega-CD.

Overview

Arslan Senki is a strategy RPG based on the novel, manga, and anime franchise of the same name, often localized as The Heroic Legend of Arslan (this romanized name is also featured on the game case). It follows and is meant to complement the Arslan Senki OVA (Original Video Animation) series from 1993-95 from studio Animate Film, which followed a two-movie series of theirs. The plot follows the eponymous Crown Prince of the nation of Pars (the ancient name for Persia) who loses his kingdom to neighbors Lusitania after the death of his father the King and fights to win it back with a ragtag group of followers and, eventually, his own army.

The game plays similarly to Intelligent Systems's Fire Emblem series, with a square grid structure to its maps, battles that take place in short cutaway animated scenes, and persistent characters that grow stronger after defeating enough enemies incentivizing the player to ensure every unit pulls their weight so they don't fall behind in levels.
