The player must make their way through 100 levels, finding and destroying the power generator on each one. The levels are accessed from an overworld. While the early levels are arranged linearly, later levels give the player a choice as to which order to play them in, with some being entirely optional. Towards the end of the game, many levels are scattered to far-flung islands.
Throughout the game, the player has several opportunities to purchase items from shops, such as save crystals that add extra save points to tricky levels, or nukes that let the player skip levels entirely. These items are purchased with silicon crystals which are hidden throughout the game.
Blackshift has a feature called the Level Pit, where players can make their own levels and share them online. This adds a social element to an otherwise single-player game.
