Megatouch MAXX

The third main line of Megatouch multi-game touchscreen arcade machines with more powerful PC hardware and use of dedicated hard drives instead of CDs.

Overview

Megatouch MAXX is a multi-game arcade machine developed and released by Merit Industries for arcades (using PC-based hardware) in 1999.

The sequel to the Megatouch XL line of machines, Megatouch MAXX features more powerful PC hardware and a larger lineup of games (as it uses dedicated hard drives instead of CDs).

Many games in the XL's lineup appear nearly identical in the MAXX, with both systems receiving similar updates through to the end of the XL's lifespan in 2002, with the MAXX being the latest higher-end version.

It received multiple updates through to 2006 with Megatouch MAXX 2K, Megatouch MAXX Diamond, Megatouch MAXX Emerald, Megatouch MAXX Sapphire, Megatouch MAXX Jade, and Megatouch MAXX Crown. Its successor was the Megatouch Force series, and both received similar updates through to 2006 (with the MAXX being the lower-end "legacy" version).
