Astra Ignota is a minimalist puzzle game set aboard a sentient spaceship adrift between stars. You must grow symmetrical galaxies from their cores outward, fill the entire board, and solve 60 rewarding, handcrafted puzzles, all while uncovering a mysterious sci-fi story told through brief narrative episodes. The original idea comes from the game Tentai Show (also known as Galaxy), by the Japanese puzzle magazine Nicoli, creators of the Sudoku. The game features multiple grid types, simple gameplay, and multiple tools that get unlocked as the story progresses. And no time pressure. This game features gameplay inspired by shmups made by Seibu Kaihatsu and Psikyo, in which enemies attack with relatively fewer, but faster, projectiles. It is different from bullet hell shmups like most of CAVE's games and Touhou, in which the screen can contain hundreds of bullets that are slow. Seibu-style shmups focus on quick reaction times and awareness of enemy locations, compared to bullet hell shmups, which focus on dodging and weaving through intricate bullet patterns.
