The main character Lu Chengxuan (陸承軒) killed his parents as a result of not being able control his mysterious power, and was about to die in the wilderness as an outcast when he was coincidentally brought to the World of Shanhai through a portal created by Huangfu Muyun (皇甫暮雲), a powerful wielder of sword energy and the avatar of the Xuanyuan Sword, using the Pangu Axe. There, he encounters Xia Rou (夏柔), second empress of the Kingdom of Women. The two traveled around the world, meeting with people from other kingdoms, and set out to accomplish a task given to them by the Elder of the Green Dragon Kingdom, leading to a confrontation with the exiled Princess of Heaven, Qing'er (青兒), who helped the Yellow Emperor, Ji Xuanyuan (姬軒轅), claim the mortal world for humans and was banished due to her newly acquired form causing cataclysmic droughts after expending her power in aiding him in reforging the sword that would later be known as the Xuan Yuan Sword.Firestarter

Sword and Fairy Inn (Xianjian Kezhan) is based on the Chinese role-playing game Xianjian Qixia Zhuan. The game has the same protagonist, the young swordsman Li Xiaoyao, and is in a certain way a parody of Sword and Fairy. In this game, Li Xiaoyao still works for his aunt, doing various jobs in the inn. The game also features the female characters from the RPG - Li Xiaoyao's sweetheart Zhao Ling'er, Lin Yueru, and Anu. Unlike most installments in the series, "Sword and Fairy Inn" is not a role-playing game, but a simulation. The player's goal in the game is to cook meals, prepare rooms, and generally take care of the guests. The game has an internal clock, and the hero should do his job well to please his aunt. When Li Xiaoyao is not busy with the inn, he can explore nearby locations or have a date with Ling'er. There are many items to be found, which can be later used for cooking and other purposes. New Legend of Sword and Fairy is a remake of the Chinese (Taiwanese) role-playing game The Legend of Sword and Fairy. The remake preserves the story, dialogues, battle system, and overall graphical style of the original. Certain conversations and story sequences have been expanded or added, including two alternate hidden endings to the story. Some of the dungeons have a different (sometimes slightly simplified) design. Instead of simple 2D backgrounds and character sprites, the remake utilizes pre-rendered backgrounds and small 3D character models, similarly to the second installment of the series.
