OutRun 2019

A futuristic take on Sega's classic racing sim OutRun, set in the far-off year of 2019. It was exclusive to the Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and developed by the team behind the Genesis OutRun port.

Overview

OutRun 2019 is a sci-fi racing game where players take on courses in rocket-powered cars. It is based on Sega's arcade game OutRun and like that game uses a behind-the-car perspective and course design that incorporates multiple branches, some of which are carefully hidden. It was originally planned to be a Sega CD game, but production was moved to the Mega Drive instead.

It was developed by the small studio Hertz, a subsidiary of a larger engineering company, and published by SIMS in Japan and Sega in North America and Europe.
