Heiankyo Alien

Heiankyo Alien is a 1979 maze game originally developed and released for the NEC PC-8001 and for for arcades. It is the first "trap 'em up" game and the first game to feature a digging mechanic.


The game is set in Heian-era Japan, where a police officer defends the capital city of Heian-kyo (modern Kyoto) from aliens.

It was originally created by the University of Tokyo's Theoretical Science Group (TSG) for the NEC PC-8001 computer in 1979.
