There is a futuristic theme with robots, a fast food theme with French fries and soft drinks attacking health food, a Three Kingdoms era theme, and a fairy-tale theme. The game is automatically paused until someone presses the Start button, so there is unlimited time for making alliances in the Super Famicom version—until the start button is pressed.

This is perhaps most obvious in the lemmings themselves, which are much more detailed than before. The FX and soundtrack stay mostly unchanged, and overall this might be considered the best port of the game due to being almost identical other than the graphics upgrade. The game was released as a 3 Floppy Disk Set seperated by program, graphics, and levels + sound.

Player abilities can be adjusted to suit different styles of play.
