In a future setting, the dimensional, suggestively demonic, creature and title character Gigandes suddenly awakens. Residing deep below the Earth's surface, it calls its own worshippers and space force from other galaxies to the Milky Way in order to conquer mankind. Earth's defenses constructs the Round-37, a small but powerful space fighter with the intent of stopping Gigandes and its evil plans, combatting its forces and influences on Earth and in space.
The Round-37 had a four-way weapon system: players equipped weapons on either the top, bottom, back or front of the ship by collecting weapons depending on the direction the ship approaches the item in. The player also had full control over the direction of the ship, allowing the ship to not only collect weapons in a desired direction but also fire in different directions. Sengeki Striker (閃激ストライカー) is a vertically scrolling shooter created by Warashi and Kaneko for the arcade and released in 1997.
The scoring system of Sengeki Striker is not well-understood. It is known that destroying enemy ships so that the explosion takes out other enemies, and using the Gambits to destroy targets, are worth points.
Sengeki Striker bears some visual resemblance to Shienryu, a previous game by Warashi.
Player controls with two buttons and an 8-way joystick. One button shoots the gun, the other allows the player to jump enemy bullets and other attacks. The 8-way joystick is used to specify the direction of movement, pointing down to crouch and the different up directions to indicate angle of the shot. At the start of the game, player must practice in the target practice room, then play through the next 7 stages to beat the game; however, the game will loop after the 7th stage is completed. In stages 1 thru 8, the object is to shoot a certain number of criminals and avoid shooting civilians. If the player is hit by an enemy or if the player shoots a civilian, the player will lose a life. When all lives are lost, the game ends. Besides criminals and civilians, some objects in the backgrounds of the seven stages can be shot to earn extra points, such as amusement park rides and signs.

Also new, if you play a two-player game, the second player will have a different set of characters to select. They are clones of the first player characters, except with different names and slightly altered sprites or changed color palettes. These characters include: Vic Viper/Lord British, Pentaro/Hanako, Twinbee/Winbee, Takosuke/Belial, Hikaru/Akane, Mambo/Samba, Michael/Gabriel and Koitsu/Aitsu.

Players progress through the game as a robot racing through a pipe, shooting everything that moves. The robot can shoot from both arms, jump, kick and punch. There are also power-ups and bonuses that can be collected to upgrade the robot's weapons and armor.
There are three different types of robots to choose from: Silver Mare, Beliws, and Nitika. Weapons are chosen before each stage and every level has Mode 7 graphics. Three difficulty levels can be chosen; ranging from easy, medium, and hard.
