Highway Hunter is a DOS-based video game created in 1994. It was developed by Omega Integral Systems, released by Safari Software, and distributed by Epic MegaGames (now Epic Games). The game uses a top-down view. The player's car is situated on a raised highway. The ground is visible on the sides. The player's car is constantly moving upwards through the level, though the player can maneuver his car around the screen within the boundaries of the highway. The player fires at enemies that come from the top of the screen. There are ground enemies on the highway and flying enemies that can come in from the sides or the top. Some enemies may drop weapon power ups which make the player car's projectiles stronger or more numerous. The game is divided into three episodes each with a number of levels, with a boss at the end of each level. The shareware version omits the second and third episodes. Escape from Ragor is a german fantasy role playing game, a typical dungeon crawler with tile-based movement and real-time combat. The strategy-game Magic of Endoria takes place in the fantasy kingdom Endoria. Aeons ago the gods of Endoria were disgusted by the badness in the world and morphed themselves into crystal splinters and retreated into the underworld. Who gets all these splinters becomes the master of Endoria. Now two rival arch mages got aware of this myth and go on the search. You are one of them. Of course you have to dig deep into the underground to find them. Your responsibility lies in the building. managing and defending of mines. To achieve this you hire employees with different professions: Craftsmen, researchers, mine workers, hauliers and warriors. These people want to see money for their work and they improve their abilities when they become experienced. During the game you dig new alleys, equip them with traps, research new tools and fight against enemy troops to conquer their alleys. Later you have mutated creatures to your disposal. The game simulates the 15 Puzzle, a sliding puzzle that consists of numbered square tiles located on 4x4 board in random order with one tile missing. The object of the puzzle is to place the tiles in order by making sliding moves that use the empty space. This game includes the pictures of naked women (originally found in Playboy magazine) in background of the board. When tile is placed in order, it is converted in part of picture, but it still can be moved. There are 8 levels in the game, and certain tiles can't be moved on the board with level increase. You have to have good timing in this game because if you miss once in the fastest speed, you're done. There are no power-ups in this game. Wall Pipe is one of many Pipedream / Pipemania / Oilswell type games released by Soleau Software. This game plays pretty much the same as the games previously mentioned: Lay out pieces of pipe so that the oil continues to flow. You're given 30 seconds before the oil starts moving. The interface is a bit confusing to me: You need to click the mouse to select the next piece, which then disappears, so you'd better remember what type of piece you're placing. I also encountered a weird bug: The clock continues to tick down while you're in the options menu, but the game apparently only checks when the clock hits 0 while you're in the actual game. So the clock ticked below 0 while I was in the options, and was at -5 when I returned to the game. The oil never flowed and I had to quit the game! Other than the weird bug and the confusing interface design choice, it does work, but there are better Pipedream clones out there, several from Soleau itself.Bear Stormin'
