    Play to Befriend a Pokémon!

    2011

    Web browser
Play to Befriend a Pokémon! was a Flash game formerly available on Pokémon.com. It was a Pokémon Global Link promotion. The goal is to break blocks with a bouncing ball, similar to Breakout. Players use the paddle to keep the ball from falling out of bounds. When the ball hits blocks consecutively, the score increases by 100 each hit. Sometimes when a block is hit, an orb of its color will fall. These orbs, when caught by the paddle, are worth 500 points each. There are 4 levels, and the player starts with 3 lives. They may earn more lives and power-ups later. After playing, the orbs caught, depending on what kind, can be used to redeem 1 free Pokémon via the Pokémon Dream World, provided the player is signed in under their Pokémon Trainer Club account. These Pokémon are Vaporeon, Jolteon, Flareon, Espeon, Umbreon, Leafeon, and Glaceon. The game was removed after May 19, 2011, and the .swf file for it was actually deleted from the site.

Pachirisu's Click-Clack Attack! was a Flash game on Pokémon.com. The player must send Pokémon discs into holes located at each of the four corners of the board to earn points. Which direction and the distance the discs are launched depends on the angle and force they are launched at. Each disc depicts a Pokémon. While these discs can be sent directly into the holes, if they hit another Pokémon disc in their evolutionary line, they will fuse together and evolve. If they hit an unrelated Pokémon, they will simply collide and knock each other back. There are also special rounds where certain conditions must be met, such as getting all the discs into the holes in one shot.

    Turtwig's Target Smash!

    2010

    Web browser
Turtwig's Target Smash! is a game on Pokémon.com. The player controls a Turtwig who must smash targets using Energy Ball. Turtwig sits on a platform that is constantly moving up and down. Targets appear on a screen in various formations, and the goal is to destroy as many as possible with one attack. The player holds down the Energy Ball button, causing Turtwig to aim. Holding it down too long results in Turtwig's aim being locked in a near-straight line, so the player must release the button when the aim is satisfactory. The more targets hit, the more powerful Energy Ball becomes. After several sets of targets are destroyed, the player moves on to the next level. The entire game, including different levels, lasts 99 seconds. After the time is up, Turtwig destroys the remaining targets with Solar Beam, and the final score is displayed.

Bubble Tea gained such popularity globally that it was officially announced as a new emoji on this day in 2020. This Taiwanese drink started as a local treat and has exploded in popularity over the last few decades. Bubble tea has its roots in traditional Taiwanese tea culture which dates back as early as the 17th century. However, it wasn’t until the 1980s that the bubble tea as we know today was invented. As waves of Taiwanese immigrants over the past few decades brought this drink overseas, innovation on the original bubble tea continues. Shops around the world are still experimenting with new flavors, additions, and mixtures. Traditional tearooms across Asia have also joined in on the boba craze, and the tren
