The characters are controlled with one action button which lets the player perform a spin jump, and a trackball which is used to move the characters around. Each trackball and corresponding action button are color-coded, meaning the blue ones are for Sonic, red ones are for Mighty and yellow ones are for Ray. The premise of the game is to reach the end of an isometric course without dying. This objective is similar to other video games in the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Yet, it is also different in the sense that instead of a typical platforming game, the game is centered entirely around running as fast as possible on a linear course from a never-ending barrage of threats, including giant boulders, lava flows, rogue gears, falling stalactites, and other traps. Air Assault is a 2D up-scrolling shoot 'em up game where you take control of fighter. The game is similar to Air Duel. You have to tward the evil plans of an organization called the Fourth empire over the span of eight stages. As you make progress and fight of various tanks, flying crafts, ships, static guns and bosses power-ups come available. Power-ups can be collected from capsules. Four types of guns are available: Balkan gun (broad strait shooting gun), Wing gun (broad arc shooting gun), graviton laser (strait narrow beam) and grenade (all direction gun). Missiles include the strait megaton missile and a homing missile. There is also a bomb that clears the entire screen. The game can be played solo or with a friend.Gaiapolis

The game's controls consists of an eight-way joystick and two buttons for attacking and jumping. Like in Sunset Riders, the player can jump between higher or lower levels, as well as slide. The player character attacks primarily by shooting an unlimited supply of shurikens/daggers, or using his/her weapon at close range. The game includes some improvements that were not included in Sunset Riders, such as the ability for players to change characters after they lose a credit as well as a life gauge that allows the player to sustain up to four hits from enemy attacks before losing a life. The player must defeat box-carrying enemies in order to obtain power-up items.
