    Sharp X68000
In the 21st century, Tokyo is attacked by an unidentified force. At first, it is thought to be a military coup d'état because all the weapons and personnel involved belonged to the forces of Earth, though investigations can uncover no motive from the participants nor connect them to each other. After ten more years of seemingly-random attacks on Earth cities by Earth forces, a researcher discovers the existence of an alien species which has been monitoring the planet and using telepathy to seize control of groups of humans in order invoke chaos. Soon thereafter, the aliens increase their assault by turning more of Earth's weapons on each other, seeking the planet's destruction. With few humans left able to act normally under the aliens' power, our protagonist climbs into an experimental ship, codenamed 'Zero', and departs in search of victory...

Role-playing (RPG) Hack and slash/Beat 'em up Arcade
Arcade Super Nintendo Entertainment System Super Famicom
    star 7.2
The gameplay is very similar to other Capcom beat 'em ups, such as Final Fight and Capcom's previous hack-and-slash fantasy title The King of Dragons. There are seven stages, each with its own boss and a variety of generic enemies that try to stop the players' progress. The fights rely strongly on blocking ability, which is triggered by pressing the attack button, then pressing the joystick away as the opponent strikes. If successful, the player gains a few seconds of invincibility with which to counter-attack. However, if no one strikes the player's character while holding the block, they will tire and drop their guard, making them vulnerable to attack. Blocking is vital in certain cases, since some bosses will be vulnerable only after their attack has been blocked by the player. As in most beat 'em ups, a desperation attack is performed by pressing both the attack and jump buttons simultaneously. This knocks out most enemies on the screen, but the player loses a little bit of health every time he uses it.

Crystal Caves Volume 1: Troubles with Twibbles

    1991

    Platform
    PC (Microsoft Windows)
Mylo Steamwitz, an enterprising space trader, has set out to the perilous mines of the Altairian system. He hopes to collect enough crystals to start a profitable twibble farm. Crystal Caves is a side-scrolling platform game, where the objective is to finish all 16 levels, collecting every single crystal within. On his way, Mylo is threatened by numerous monsters, such as bats, robots, mine carts or dinosaurs; there are also a lot of hazards such as stalactites and stalagmites, pipes which leak harmful water or poisonous mushrooms which kill instantly. Mylo has three health points, and if he is harmed enough times to deplete them all, he dies (but thankfully he has unlimited lives). To defend himself, Mylo has a missile pistol, which is able to take out most enemies, but not all. Many levels require the player to act fast and plan beforehand, as it's easy to get Mylo stuck in an impossible-to-win situation - if this happens, the level must be restarted. Apart from the crystals, the levels contain a lot of items t
