    1989

    Role-playing (RPG)
    PC-9800 Series
The Sign of Chaos is a sequel to Descendants of Danaan, set in the same fantasy world based on Irish mythology. The legendary hero has accomplished his mission, but the forces of darkness were too strong, and as a result four kingdoms were engulfed in chaos, overrun by monstrous creatures. The hero travels to the land of Fianapia and teams up with the local princess to cleanse the country of evil. The basic gameplay system is similar to that of the predecessor, relying on Ultima-like role-playing template with free-form exploration of a vast overhead map. Dungeons are viewed from a top-down perspective as well. Turn-based combat takes place against randomly appearing enemies on separate battle screens where tactical navigation is possible. Changes include graphical towns, character icons displayed during navigation, and the possibility to converse with or even recruit certain type of potentially hostile creatures encountered in the wilderness.

The sequel to Kōshoku Shikakenin (the first Horny Sweeper) tells us what happened to the brave hero Kazuya after he has overthrown the evil regime in the first game. One day Kazuya goes outside, enjoying the good weather, when an unknown girl appears and says she is the sister of Mai, one of the heroines of the first game. It looks like PSYCO, the evil brain-washing power, is back! And not just anywhere, but in a girls high school! Kazuya readily agrees to liberate the poor girls from the curse of PSYCO. Horny Sweeper 2: Joshikō Kiki Ippatsu plays very similarly to the first game. It is a top-down turn-based strategy game in which the player navigates Kazuya and the liberated girls on the large battle fields and attacks when enemies are in range. The difference is that in the sequel, characters gain experience points from each attack, rather than automatically leveling up after large battles, which grants this game a definite role-playing angle. In comparison to the anime, the game is fairly lighthearted, with Shidō and Guni providing comic relief. Nightwalker was initially developed as a spin-off project of the adult game Bishōjo Audition: Find an Idol released by Tomboy in February 1993, with the character Rihoko Ayukawa from that game reappearing as a heroine. However, in the process of refining the setting, the heroine's name was changed to Riho Yamazaki, her design was changed, and the story and setting were separated from the previous work. The concept of the world of Nightwalker itself is based on illustrations from 1992.
