The Beatles yellow submarine graphic was not used in any Atari 5200 video game and was perhaps nothing more than an inspiration by the original programmer. There is no game here only the ability to control the yellow submarine on and around the screen

    Wall-Defender

    1983

    Shooter
    Atari 2600
The mission - you are defending the wall from attacking aliens. Don't let them hit as they make the wall weaker. This sounds simplistic and is, but highly addictive as you score points for every alien destroyed. If a segment of the outer wall is destroyed (by the aliens kamikaze into it) if this happens enough times the outer wall flashes and you need to move in a level, post haste. If you don't, you drift off to space and all is lost. Don't fret though you have a chance to regain lost wall space by simply staying alive. If you stay alive long enough with no more incidents, you can regain that which has been lost...precious wall.

  • Scuba Dive

    1983

    Scuba Dive

    1983

    Arcade
    Commodore C64/128/MAX ZX Spectrum
The aim of the game was simple yet unique. Starting with three divers (lives) on a motor boat you were to drop into the deep blue and gather underwater riches such as pearls and treasure. Nothing like this had been released on the ZX Spectrum before, a game based around wet suit shenanigans was totally original. Controlling your sprite was a little tricky at first, but once you got the hang of it you would be moving through the underwater caverns with the grace of Shelly Winters. Well nearly. You could rotate your character clockwise or anti-clockwise then 'swim' in the direction you were facing. Acceleration to full speed took a couple of seconds (realistic) as did slowing down to a halt (again, realistic). It was up to you to collect pearls from oyster shells (which would open and shut, timing to swoop in and nab the pearl was key), and to locate lost treasure (but only in the deepest parts of the underwater cavern). There were hazards to avoid in the water such as sharks, jellyfish, eels and giant octupus. C

  • Treasure Island

    1983

    Treasure Island

    1983

    Texas Instruments TI-99
Treasure Island is an arcade adventure based on the Robert Louis Stevenson's book. You play the role of Jim Hawkins who has to get to Treasure Island, defeat pirates and defeat Long John Silver. Jim must get on to a ship and avoid the enemies before being whisked off to Treasure Island. On the island Jim must encounter and avoid various pirates. Scattered on the island are cutlasses which can be used to kill pirates blocking his path. Beware though, cutlasses are limited so Jim doesn't want to waste them on any old pirate. Get hit by a cutlass or touched by a pirate and you lose a live sending you back to the start of the screen. Search the island, find Long John Silver and become rich beyond your wildest dreams. The game is viewed from a side, top down view. The game doesn't scroll but flicks to the next screen as you explore this maze. Your score is shown as a percentage of the game completed.
